The Ink Business Preferred card from Chase allows businesses to buy goods and services they need in exchange for annual fees and interest payments. Other benefits include:
- Credit card points that can be redeemed for:
- Travel perks like seats and upgrades
- Cashback
- Gift cards
- Sporting or cultural experiences
Is there an annual fee?
The card comes with an annual fee of $95. Unlike with other similar cards, this isn’t waived for the first year.
What is the APR?
This card comes with a 17.99%–22.99% variable APR.
That places it roughly in the middle-range for most business credit cards that charge an annual fee.

Who is the Ink Business Preferred card right for?
This card is great for two kinds of businesses:
- Companies with regular travel expenses
- Companies that spend a lot on online advertising.
For example, a company sourcing goods manufactured abroad and selling them in the US could benefit from this card:
- The travel benefits would be good for when executives travel abroad to meet with local manufacturers,
- The three-times points from shipping purchases would be useful when it’s time to send finished products to the US.
- To boost customer awareness, the three-times points on marketing with search engines and social media companies would add further value.
To make sure they’re getting the best possible deal, small businesses should check other cards before making a final decision. A rundown of popular business credit cards can be found here.
Are there introductory rates and rewards?
If a cardholder spends $5,000 or more on purchases in the first three months from the opening of the account, they receive 80,000 bonus points.
That works out to $1,000 in travel rewards when redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.
This may seem generous, but there are other cards currently offering significantly greater introductory rewards. The Spark® Miles card from Capital One® offers a tiered system of introductory rewards that works out to a value of roughly $4,200.
Of course, other cards – like the Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business – offer no introductory rewards at all. However, cards like that don’t require as high of a credit score.
How many points do I get?
This card continues to be generous towards travelers even after introductory perks expire. When paying for travel, businesses earn three-times the regular amount of points.
Cardholders can also transfer their accumulated points to leading frequent travel programs at a one-for-one rate. While that means that no points are lost in translation during the transfer, it’s important to remember that points can vary in value.
Just because a point is worth a certain dollar amount with a credit card provider doesn’t mean an outside organization like a third-party frequent flyer program has the same valuation.
Each new anniversary year of opening the account, cardholders earn three points for each dollar spent in the following categories up to the first $150,000:
- Travel
- Shipping purchases
- Internet, cable, and phone services
- Advertising purchases from search engines and social media sites
After the first $150,000 you get one point per dollar spent in these categories, just as you do for non-category purchases from the start.
How many travel miles do my points buy?
Businesses don’t earn travel miles directly with the Chase Ink Business Preferred card. Instead, you earn points that can be redeemed to help towards or cover the cost of travel.
Each point redeemed for travel is worth $0.0125, compared to $0.01 when redeemed for cash. If you spend 20,000 points on travel, that’s a saving of $250.
What are the cash back terms like?
Unlike with travel expenses, other rewards like cash back are offered at the rate of $0.01 per point. If you redeem the 80,000 bonus points you accumulated in the first three months for example, that’s $800 cash back.
What other benefits come with this card?
Chase Ink Business Preferred cardholders also receive:
- Employee cards included free
- Cell phone protection up to $600
- Zero liability protection
- No foreign transaction fees
- Fraud protection
- Purchase protection
- Trip cancellation/interruption insurance up to $5,000 per trip for non-refundable
- Auto rental collision damage waiver (also useful for travelers renting cars)
- Extended warranty protection from US manufacturers for one to three years
While purchase protection, no foreign transaction fees, and free employee cards are common, the cell phone protection is extremely rare to find, even with a high-end business card.
